We consider the decision to stop funding the activities and work of Voice of America and Radio Liberty (in Kazakhstan, Radio Azattyq) to be contrary to the interests of the United States in promoting the principles of democracy and human rights.
For decades, Voice of America and Radio Liberty have been and remain a source of independent and unbiased information for millions of residents of authoritarian countries. In view of today’s national and global situation, the work of Voice of America and Radio Liberty is particularly important.
We agree on the need to reform Voice of America and Radio Liberty to make them even more competitive, transparent and objective – a position we have held for many years.
Radio Azattyq has done extensive work in gathering information related to Qantar 2022, it covers political persecution, conducts investigations and acts as an important source of information on Kazakhstan for American and European politicians, journalists and diplomats. The Radio Azattyq team is one of the pillars of support for civil society in Kazakhstan.
We believe it is important that Voice of America and Radio Liberty have the opportunity to continue their important mission to help shed light into the darkest corners of our planet.
